The Biopesticides Technical Manual

Comprehensive Guide & Crop-Specific Appendix: Our primary project output is a two-part manual designed for immediate field application. The Guide provides the "how-to" of biopesticides, while the Appendix offers detailed solutions for specific pests and diseases.

Part A: Technical Guide to Biopesticides: This guide serves as a comprehensive roadmap for educators and farmers. It transitions from high-level principles to the specific logistics of farm management.
- Organic Foundations: A deep dive into the four pillars of organic farming (Health, Ecology, Fairness, Care) and a clear breakdown of the EU Regulation 2018/848 and certification processes.
- The Science of Biopesticides: Detailed classification of biological agents, explaining how they interact with ecosystems and why they are the primary tool for fighting pest resistance.
- Precision Application & Safety: Technical instructions on sprayer calibration, nozzle selection (flat fan vs. hollow cone), and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure operator safety.

Part B: Appendix – Pest & Disease Database: The Appendix is a highly technical encyclopedia of the most common agricultural threats in the Mediterranean and beyond. Each entry provides a biological profile, visual symptoms, and a tiered Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy.
- Olive Cultivation: Specialized focus on the Olive Fruit Fly, Olive Moth, and Olive Weevil, including biological control agents that replace chemical sprays.
- Viticulture (Vineyards): Comprehensive management strategies for Lobesia botrana (European Grapevine Moth), Mealybugs, and fungal threats like Downy and Powdery Mildew.
- Vegetable Crops (Tomato): Targeted solutions for the devastating Tuta absoluta (Leafminer), Whiteflies, and viral diseases like the Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV).
- Citrus Management: Expert guidance on controlling the Mediterranean Fruit Fly and Asian Citrus Psyllid in orange and lemon groves.
